About us
Tisser means ‘to weave’. As a community, Tisser India is weaving the
legacy of loom and craft industry with the hands of women in rural
clusters as they sustain their livelihoods.
Mahatma Gandhi believed if the villages perish, India will perish too. We strive towards nourishing the gold, the villages of India. It’s his vision for the villages which has constantly fueled the endeavor of Tisser India, be it empowering women, making villages self-sustainable, using fabrics grown from the soil etc. His was the original #VocalForLocal campaign before ours. With the mission of fighting poverty through generating livelihood in rural artisan clusters, we have established a network of 10,000+ artisans, in 18+ states and several Self-Help Groups in its pockets.
To measure of Impact of Tisser India is not in the numbers but the width of smile on the faces of an artisan in rural cluster who are able to sustain her livelihood by skilling themselves, make products for us, and earn income in the process. The art forms they practice range from a wide cultural range of tribal communities our country inhabits, Madhubani, Warli, Kalamkari, Ikat, Teracotta, Pattachitra,Tussar Silk, Block Print, Chanderi, Maheshwari, Dokra etc. We scaled the plurarity by campaigns like ‘Har Ghar Mein India, Grass Root Artisan Movement and cluster development partnerships with UNDP, L&T, Pidilite and Maharashtra State Innovation Society.
We have brought the entrepreneurial leverage to our cultural legacy by carving a market online and offline, with other business and customers, weaving the home grown pride to longitudes and latitudes of India. Drop by our stores or our site, to be a part of Tisser India’s pride.
